Does Christmas make you sad? Eat strawberries and blueberries. Numerous studies have shown that when eating these berries, our bodies produce more endorphins and serotonins, the direct sources of your happiness and well-being.
Neurobiologists study the relationship between alimentation and psychology and how the intake of certain ingredients produces diverse reactions in the organism. Endorphins and serotonins make you feel comfort, happiness and are also the providers of a restful sleep, as well as acting as natural painkillers. As strawberries and blueberries are rich in fibre, they slow the digestion significantly, diminishing stress effects. This slower digestion makes our blood sugar levels stable for a longer time.
According to a study by the Autonomous University of Mexico, published in the Journal of Health Psychology, blueberries and strawberries have structurally very similar flavour components as these from valproic acid, an antiepileptic drug used to calm the mood swings of people with maniac depressive disorder or bipolar disorder.
If you want to feel better, add exercise to the strawberries and blueberries intake and run away from the blues on Christmas.
